Expectation of Board Members and Officers
In general all officers and board members should offer the following:
- A willingness to spend 9-12 hours per month:
3 hours Board meetings (see Schedule)
3 hours Chapter meetings
2-3 hours Committee work or individual assignment
1-3 hours Chapter projects - Commitment to develop leadership skills through committee work or individual assignments.
- Commitment to attend most chapter work days, special events, etc.
- Willingness to help out in chapter fundraising activities, which may include tying flies, contacting in-kind donors, donating small items yourself (books, etc.).
- Commitment to welcoming new members and new attendees visitors at chapter meetings, to make them feel welcome and included in the conversation.
- Willingness to alert relevant members (i.e., Vice President) of potential speakers for meetings.
- Participation in strategic planning meetings.
In addition there are specific duties for the officers:
- The president is the executive officer and insures that the activities of the organization meet the mission of the organization. The president also sets the agenda for meetings and runs them. The president is also the main public contact for the organization
- The vice president arranges the speaker for the meetings. The vice president can be, though doesn't have to be, the president-in-waiting.
- The secretary records the minutes of the Board Meetings and handles or delegates correspondence with the members or public.
- The treasurer keeps the books, files financial reports with National TU, takes the money for fundraising events, banks other monies that may come in, arranges the raffle license, pays bills, and reports monthly to the Board on the financial status of the organization.
