Whether you’re a new pup to trout fishing or an old dog, there are always new tricks to learn. SWTU offers a number of no to (very) low cost ways that you can add new skills to your arsenal.

RiverSmith Casting Clinic

(April) Want to learn what fly fishing is all about? We offer a free clinic that covers casting, aquatic entomology, reading the water to find trout, Tenkara fly fishing and more. It’s open to anyone and beginners are especially encouraged to attend. Loaner rods are available if you don’t own one.

Women’s Flyfishing Clinics

(June) We offer two clinics for women at extremely reasonable prices. The By Women for Women Beginner Fly Fishing Clinic is for women who know very little about fly fishing. The Women On the Water Skills Clinic is for those with some experience will improve any level of skills through individual and small group instruction.

Fly Tying

Do you learn best from articles, videos or classes? Either way, we have you covered when it comes to fly tying! Check out this section for a wealth of online resources, as well as information on the free fly tying classes offered each winter at beginning and intermediate levels.

Monthly Meeting

(Second Tuesday of most months — resuming spring 2022 due to pandemic) We meet most months (covid excepted) and normally have some sort of educational component. You can also meet other fishing addicts and conservation junkies. We’re a friendly bunch and new members will even be given free stuff at their first meeting!

The Icebreaker

(January – cancelled for 2022 due to the pandemic) It’s our biggest fundraiser of the year, raising money that helps power all of our other educational and conservation efforts! This daylong event features national and local speakers, fly tying demonstrations, great food, warm camaraderie and a legendary array of raffle items. You won’t want to miss it!
